Why have so many died for so little?

An interesting strategic analysis of the conduct, rather misconduct, of this war.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/751470.html

It highlights the failure of the leadership. They had all the support they could have hoped for from the people and they did not have the spirit or corage to do the right thing.
טז אִי-לָךְ אֶרֶץ, שֶׁמַּלְכֵּךְ נָעַר; וְשָׂרַיִךְ, בַּבֹּקֶר יֹאכֵלוּ.
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a boy, and thy princes feast in the morning!
17 Happy art thou, O land, when thy king is a free man, and thy princes eat in due season, in strength, and not in drunkenness!

  1. What is the point of shouting out "failure!" when you can't change anything about it right now, and when the plan is not complete?

Only thing I see it do is strengthen the perception that Terrorism is something people have to live with, and don't bother trying to fight it.

David,I agree with you that too many blunders were made in the conduct of the war.
They didnt make use of the ample time they were given in pursuance of the war. They should have attacked with fuull force at the beginning & not wasted time. The misjudgements are unforgiveable.
I personally was of divided opinion. On one hand I firmly believed (& still do) That it was an excellent opportunity to finish of the hizballah once & for all;however, emotionally I was praying for a ceasefire & full of joy when it was anounced.

  3. JS, I kept on thinking about you all this time and I am glad everything worked out ok for you. Every soldier is important but it is different when you can place someone.

I started off agreeing with Olmert and surprisingly Peretz but they come across as amateurs, incompetent almost criminally so.
